HANOI CULTURAL HERITAGE TOUR

The Hanoi Cultural Heritage Tour offers a fascinating journey through the historic and cultural heart of Hanoi. Visitors will explore iconic landmarks such as Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest Buddhist temple in the city, and discover the legacy of Vietnam’s revolutionary leader at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum within the famous Ho Chi Minh Complex.

The tour also includes visits to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, the historic Temple of Literature – Vietnam’s first university, and the powerful Hoa Lo Prison Museum. With cultural insights, authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and expert local guides, this experience provides a comprehensive introduction to Hanoi’s rich heritage and history.

Itinerary

Day 01

Hanoi Cultural Heritage Tour

08:00: Hotel Pick-up. The pickup window is 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM for hotels in the Hanoi Old Quarter.

08:45: Visit Tran Quoc Pagoda. The oldest Buddhist temple in Hanoi.

09:30: Visit Ho Chi Minh Complex. Includes viewing the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum from the outside, the Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House, and the One Pillar Pagoda.

11:15: Visit Vietnam Ethnology Museum. Note: The Women Museum will be visited instead if the Ethnology Museum is closed, for example, on Mondays.

12:45: Lunch. Enjoy authentic Vietnamese dishes at a local restaurant.

14:30: Visit Temple of Literature. Vietnam’s first university.

15:15: Visit Hoa Lo Prison Museum. Also known as the “Hanoi Hilton.”

16:30: Return to Hotel. The tour concludes and guests are dropped off at their hotel.

Special Note: we will visit Women Museum instead of Ethnology Museum closed on Mondays

Important notes:

  • Visitors should dress modestly, covering shoulders to knees, when visiting Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, temples, and pagodas.
  • Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum is closed on Mondays and Fridays.
  • The Mausoleum is closed for at least 2 months annually (usually from June 15th to August 15th) for maintenance. During this period, visitors can still take pictures of the Mausoleum from the outside and visit the surrounding area.
  • Photography is restricted in certain areas of the complex.
  • The itinerary may be adjusted due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and bringing a hat or umbrella for sun protection.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Start your day with a visit to Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest Buddhist temple in Hanoi. Located on a small island near the southeastern shore of West Lake, this 1,400-year-old pagoda is a serene retreat from the bustling city. Admire the historic architecture, including the eleven-story red pagoda, and enjoy the peaceful gardens surrounding the temple.

Next, we’ll visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex, where you’ll learn about the life and legacy of Vietnam’s revolutionary leader. Observe the grand Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum from the outside and take a stroll through the serene gardens to see the Presidential Palace and Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House. Don’t miss the iconic One Pillar Pagoda, built to resemble a lotus blossom.

Visit Vietnam Ethnology Museum to learn about the culture of 54 ethnic groups living in the whole country of Vietnam 

Enjoy a delicious lunch featuring a variety of authentic Vietnamese dishes at a local restaurant. This is a perfect opportunity to taste the flavors of Hanoi and recharge for the afternoon’s activities.

In the afternoon, we’ll drive to Temple of Literature – the first university of Vietnam, established in the 11 century 

Leave for Hoa Lo Prison Museum which originally used by the French colonists in Indochina for political prisoners, and later by North Vietnam for U.S. prisoners of war during the Vietnam War. During this later period, it was known to American POWs as the “Hanoi Hilton”.

16:00 – 16:30: Tour finishes. Back to hotel

  • Customers staying within the designated Hanoi Old Quarter District Hoàn Kiếm area will be conveniently picked up and transported to their centrally located hotel or accommodation.
  • The pickup window is between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM, with the specific time dependent on the hotel’s location. Please ensure you are ready in the hotel lobby at the appointed time. Due to traffic regulations, pickup services are not available for accommodations located in alleys.
  • The tour guide will confirm the exact pickup time prior to the tour date.
  • Customers staying outside of the Hanoi Old Quarter District Hoàn Kiếm area are kindly requested to make their own way to the designated meeting point: Hanoi Opera House, located at 1 Tràng Tiền Street, District Hoàn Kiếm, by 08:20 – 08:30 AM.
